The existing water tariff has basically two categories, that is, residential and commercial. A connection is categorized as commercial if:
1. it falls under the precincts of Urban Core, Urban Hub, and UV-1
2. the building is used as a hotel, restaurant, bar, fast food, meat shops, workshops, and car washing services.
3. All government and private offices
The rest of the connections are categorized as residential connections.
The rates per unit(m3) of water for commercial and residential connections are Nu.11.6 and Nu.4.35 respectively.
1 unit of water =1000 liters.
Due to the nature of water meter connections in most of the buildings is limited to one meter per building, the categorization has been always impractical. 90% of the buildings are found to be mixed-used types.
Therefore, the rationalization would be more practical if we merge the rates as one without categorization. Moreover, whoever consumes more will definitely have to pay more anyway. The merged rate is proposed to be Nu.7.00 per unit of water.
